Best Films To Watch This Halloween

Nothing puts you in the Halloween mood quite like a Halloween film. Whether you’re into the scary or not so scary, these films should be on your watch list this Halloween.

1.Hocus Pocus (1993)

Released in 1993, Hocus Pocus wasn’t an initial box office hit, but with annual showings the film has developed into a cult classic over the years. Starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, the film centres around 3 witches that are accidentally released by teenagers who must then try to steal the witches spell book to stop them becoming immortal.

2.Hocus Pocus (2022)

If you were a fan of the original, the sequel is a must watch. Released on 30th September 2022, Hocus Pocus 2 is filled with humour and nostalgia with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising their roles as child-hungry witches ready to wreak havoc on the world after they are released by 3 young women.

3.Halloween (1978)

Halloween released in 1978 is an American independent slasher film. Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis (in her debut role), the film centres around a mental patient who murdered his 17 year old sister when he was 6 years old. After being sentenced and locked away for 15 years, he escapes and returns to his home town to find his next victims.

4.The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

The Nightmare Before Christmas was released in 1993 and was produced by Tim Burton who originally wrote The Nightmare Before Christmas as a poem in 1982. A stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy film, The Nightmare Before Christmas focuses on Jack Skellington, the King of ‘Halloweentown’ who stumbles across ‘Christmastown’ and schemes to take over the holiday.

5.Beetlejuice (1988)

An American fantasy horror comedy film, Beetlejuice was released in 1988 starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones, Catherine O’Hara, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton. The film centres around a recently deceased couple who, as ghosts, haunt their former home and its new residents. Their efforts attract the attention of ‘Beetlejuice’ a rambunctious spirit, whose ‘help’ quickly becomes unwanted.

6.Casper (1995)

Casper released in 1995 is an American computer-animated supernatural dark fantasy comedy. The film stars Christina Ricci, Bill Pullman, Cathy Moriarty and Eric Idle, with voice talents of Joe Nipote, Joe Alaskey, Brad Garrett and the introduction of Malachi Pearson in the title role. The film is centred around a young friendly ghost who peacefully haunts a mansion that an afterlife therapist and his daughter move into in order to rid the mansion of wicked spirits.

7.Child’s Play (1988)

Starring Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, Dinah Manoff, Tommy Swerdlow, and Jack Colvin, with Brad Dourif as Chucky, Child’s Play is an American supernatural horror film that was released in 1988. The film centres around a doll that is possessed by the soul of a serial killer, who is given to a child by his unsuspecting mother.

8.A Quiet Place (2018)

Released in 2018, A Quiet Place stars John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe. The American post-apocalyptic horror centres around a mother and father who struggle to survive and raise their children in a world that has been taken over by blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing.
